Well Sailor Jerry was known within the tattoo community of his day and time, but It was Ed Hardy who really brought on the tattoo renaissance and introduced SJ to the world. I was friends with Mike Malone who bought SJ's shop right after he died. Malone passed away some years ago but before that he and I talked quite a bit and I heard many great tales of Sailor Jerry and the good old days from him. Here is a shot of 'the old man' laying down some ink with a pipe clenched in his teeth ;

In reference to Jimmy and his bad experience with Flying Dutchman, out of curiosity I looked up some old tobacco reviews of the stuff. Funny that one reviewer coined the words "They used to call this the frying Dutchman" so I guess it was infamous for bad tongue bite.

I have to blame myself more than the tobacco. I liked the taste, and thought I was really cool smoking a pipe like my father, so I had a few bowls in a row just puffing like a train before the burn manifested itself. :(

Hehe sounds like me now. Im a pipe wrecker I should just take Nosewarmers advice and use Cobs.

Tonight im smoking leftovers I had some Dunhill Navy rolls that I rubbed out and couldn't fill a bowl, so later the leftover tobacco went in the bottom the pipe really dry cause it was left out all day and I topped it off with some Elizabethan mixture. Smoked it in the Sav Punto Oro. Good smoke only used the pipe cleaner once. I guess the dry stuff at the bottom sopped up most of the moisture.

I love it...course I'm sure what with today's oh so careful standards you probably wouldn't be smoking a pipe in the shop.........Hell....I'de never tell. :medvl:

I was a fan of the Rum for a long while too when it first came out. Made great Rum n Cokes !

Sailor Jerry rum has been available at the local store for ages. For reason i can't understand i've never tasted it. Now as we have our labour day coming i think i have to try.

Well i'm not much after rum, whenever i do it's Angostura 1919. Guess i had enough strong ones in my army times. On those rare occasions i nowadays want to taste strongies, i prefer bitter herb liquers, mostly from Baltic States or just local Jaloviina (= 'Noble Spirit').

Makes great Rum n Cokes for sure "T" . too strong for on it's own though I think. Might also be good for hot buttered rum which I luuuuuv !!
