I think, and correct me if im talking rubbish, that I may have been tamping down too hard and maybe compressing the ash and this was what was causing my harsh taste. I had a smoke where I ever so lightly tamped. It caused a few relights but it was much cooler and smoother.

I use a zippo with pipe adaptor which I think falls into the category of soft.

Also I think maybe I have been tamping too hard and compressing the ash a bit much, would this cause the harsh taste? I had a smoke this morn and was very gentle with the tamper and it seemed coolr and smoother.

I think you're on the right track. Lightly tamping the tobacco/ ash throughout the smoke really seems to help, and gently sipping the smoke rather than long heavy draws keeps the smoke cooler as well.

Today I was awoken by the pounding of hungover girls at my door, (the one who lives here had a couple friends fly in for the weekend) so after feeding them full of coffee, biscuits, gravy, bacon, eggs, toast and pancakes I took them shooting around 1. I took the three of them to a local range that doesn't care what you do so long as you don't shoot yourself or anyone else. I taught them how to shoot the Russian Mosin Nagant M44 (1946), then took them over to the trap range and let them shoot apples with my O/U. After we came back and made Chicken and pepper empanadas with brown sugar, cinnamon, and apple empanadas for dessert. Ended the day with a cob full of Granger while listening to the girls chatter.

First off...where do you find girls that eat meat,gravy and such..second ,where do you find girls that like guns?? These types do not exist where I am. Here they eat lettuce and tofu and drink soymilk, and call yoga a good time. And coffee means a latte lite with soymilk.Apple empanadas are replaced with toffutti or rice dream ??? And guns....well .....we don't mention guns, because they look at you like you just killed a kitten . I hate my life...............:gth ....P.S. Not sure I believe the part about sittin around and listening to the girls chatter....yep...my mind went into the trashbin as well .

Shooting is definitely one of my preferred hangover activities :) These sound like some very spirited young ladies. Must be from good Missouri farm stock. Sounds like you have nearly a full time job tending to these young ladies. I'm sure the farthests thing from your mind is a bit of quid pro quo :) Anyway, back on topic after a night out with the lovely Mrs. GI, I adjourned to the lanai for some C&D Billy Budd in a Whitehall Grand National. Washed it down with a cold Red Stripe. It's well past my bedtime. My four day staycation is nearly over, if I could make four work days fly by like this, I'd be the richest man in the world.

I don't know, somehow they seem to find me. I am a lucky man. You're right it was more of smoke and have a drink while the girls chattered back and forth.

Nope I'm the only one from a rural community. The girls are from Chicago, St. Louis, Boulder, and Tampa. I'm in the process of bringing one of them to the dark side of firearms, tobacco, johnny cash and drinks not mixed with coke or in shot form. You're right it is pretty well a full time job taking care of these girls and keeping them out of trouble.

Yesterday a I got a very generous package in the mail from Phil. It contained around an ounce of both Peter Stokkerby Black Cavendish and Smokers Pride Black Cavendish. So for after breakfast I decided I couldnt wait to try so I fired up a bowl of PS and it is great. Very light and sweet but it tastes great and so far I've gotten the thumbs up from the only roommate that was home. Thank you so much Phil.

PS I love the wrapping paper envelope.
