I like the fact that there is such diversity in language. Yes, it helps if there is a common language to cross barriers, but that shouldn't be to the detriment of the language of the country. Look at Wales. It's still struggling to gain back some of it's identity after the attempted eradication of the language by the English. Even in my own family (Welsh), I have relatives that say they have no use for their native language, and can't speak much more than a few words of it anyway. The brain washing of the 'Welsh Not' has left a long lasting blemish, that is hard to get rid of. People still think that to get anywhere, they should only speak English, as Welsh is 'a backwards language'and 'inferior'. :)
