Thanks. I guess this tamper might have some age, probably. It used to belong to my late father-in-law but i have no idea how he got it. It's antler tip. There's a sailing ship on one side and a whale on another; no brass end. The text above the ship says 'Bark Sharon/New Bedford' so might be that it is originally from USA.
Heck, i'm not even sure if it's made to be a pipe tamper or did it originally have some other use?

Hey, a quick look into eBay told me that there seems to be a lot of similar tampers available.

I did some looking around the internet, the whaling vessel Sharon was the ship that was involved in a very bloody mutiny in 1842, captain killed, and a book written about it. I wonder if your tamper is in reference to that ship? Cool, none the less. Hey, anything that has harpoons carved on it is cool in my book!!

Hey that is very interesting although i can't believe this tamper could be that old. Probably it was just made to remind that old story about bark Sharon. I've always been most interested about maritime history; the Baltic Sea alone has almost unlimited amount of interesting stories about ships & the men that have gone down with them.

Nope...regular which I actually like better.I love my Peterson system pipes,but because of the military mount,I don't smoke'm outside much because of the contraction.I've actually had one break apart on it's own before which is both embarassing ha ha and scary.Good briar hitting the ground isn't a pleasant experience.
