I got a Colibri dual flame lighter that for whatever reason won't work worth a damm with any other butane fuel then Colibri brand I tried the Zippo brand available locally and it wouldn't light, supposedly the Colibri fuel is filtered more whether that is true or not I don't know but I also have another no name cheap butane lighter and while it works with the cheaper fuel I notice the Colibri fuel burns stronger and more intense.

Yea, the Colibri butane is on the high end. Unfortunately, also much more expensive... That's all I put into the lighters I really value.

Colibri is terrible even if you are digilent with purging and filling. I've been gifted a few through the years and none lasted six months. The last one had a built in cutter so I got some use out of it.
I have a two S.T. Duponts, one from the 80s , the other from the 60s, that light without incident all the time. I also use ceder matches a lot as well.
As far as butane, Vector is the way to go. Colibri is 3X refined while Vector is 5X refined and much cleaner.
I think the problem with Colibri and other lighters has to do more with the pressure from butane cans being too high, blowing seals and gaskets.
Dupongas (butane exclusive for their lighters) come in small, low pressure 0.40 fl canisters. Most commercial butune comes in 7 ounce canisters with high pressure. Even for you leave the lid open, the resulting pressure will blow the seals and gaskets.
There are good quality, low cost lighters available, Xikar (excellent costumer service) and Lotus being two of them.

I might have a fix for you. See if you can remove part of the case somehow near where the set screw is. there is a guard inside that sets the maximum for the flame adjustment. These are removeable, letting you turn the flame up higher. Not sure how easy it would be with this particular model, but it can be done. Turn the flame setting higher and give it a go. I think you'll be happy with the result.
Just had a nice Lotus table lighter quit on me and this fixed it right up.

Thanks for the note PSB, but I'm not quite sure if its the amount of butane that is screwing me up. Last time i looked at it, the problem was that butane wasn't being expelled from the nozzle. I believe it may be clogged, yet i'm finding very few ways that i can get to that area to declogg. I'm going to try the contact cleaner this weekend, and see if i can clear the shmutz away.
Thanks for your thoughts gents! You've been most helpful.

Thanked: 488I've used the IM Corona Old Boy for years and all I've ever done is clean it and it still works as well as the day I bought it. I smoke a pipe also and bought the Corona with Briar cover. It also has a pipe tamper built into the base.
