Missing Gord today, so I've got The Hip on the brain. These two are my favourite love song about a race riot and my favourite song about the sinking of the Bismarck.

my current playlist:
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Van Zant
Jimmie Van Zant
Wet Willie
Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Black Oak Arkansas
Grinders Switch
Charlie Daniels Band
Whiskey Myers
Blackberry Smoke
The Band
Doobie Brothers
.38 Special
Marshall Tucker Band
I’m hoping to see Govt Mule & Skynyrd when they stop in OKC this coming August. It’s their farewell tour, so if I’m going to ever see them this will be it. Some of those are old groups (Wet Willie, Grinder Switch) some are new groups (Whiskey Myers Blackberry Smoke). I’ve heard of another couple that I’ve yet to check out, Bishop Gunn and Blackstone Cherry.
I have the DVD of this performance. It was filmed about 14 months before he died.
The amount of talent that was there is mind blowing. These are just the ones that I know who they are and their music:
T Bone Burnett
Bruce Springsteen
Elvis Costello
Tom Waits
Lyle Lovett
J D Souther
Jackson Brown
Bonnie Raitt
k d Lang
Jennifer Warnes
And of course the man that they were there for-- I present Mister Roy Orbison;

Wow! Junior Brown! Highway patrol ain't nothing!
Junior Brown is fantastic! If I'm not mistaken that lovely woman playing rhythm guitar is his wife.
I posted this not long ago but------------------what the Hell!

I went to see Junior Brown here in Houston about 12 years ago at The Continental Club & he's great, got 2 of his cd's. He played all of his great hits & if I remember right, it was his wife on rhythm. When I lived in Austin there was a Continental Club there also, very small venue's.

I just read the sad news that 'Dr John' has passed away. He was quite the player.

I've enjoyed this piece many times. My mother would have loved it;

Sad news, Roy-I love Dr. John. That man oozed New Orleans from every pore!
I know the name but didn't know the man. From this short documentary I doubt anyone really did. Quite the man!

Redbone was cool. I remember he spotted on SNL, but was a regular on another show before.
Cannot remember it right now. Midnight Special?
Everyone listened when he played.
Man...Dr John and Leon Redbone.
Two greats.
I'll never forget this one done by Redbone :
