Default A Manly Muddler for the perfect drink

Having a wood shop I get all kinds of requests. I had a request for a muddler. That thing the bar keep uses to mull assorted things for ****tails. A manly muddler, large, tall for high ball glasses, something a bit more exotic. You cannot use most exotic woods for something like this. The oils in the wood are toxic and will leach out in your drink. We went with Birdseye Maple, I picked up a presentation grade hunk of turning stock. There is some exceptional figuring in the wood. For a bit of flair I put a Cocobolo top on the handle.

The handle portion is sculpted to fit the swell of one’s hand with a thumb and forefinger groove at the front along with a generous bead to keep you from knocking your knuckles into the glass top. The photos are dark, but you get the ideal. It has one coat of walnut oil on it but will be getting a couple more. Walnut oil is food safe and hardens nicely over a few days. It is almost 13 inches long from the business end to the top of the ball top.
