    Howdy all,

    I was interested to know what you guys prefer to pair with your favorite cigar or pipe.

    Or even not a smoke. What's your perfect drink for your perfect meal?

    Yes it does sometimes nothing tastes better than a cool refreshing glass of water.

    I drink water or tea with every meal except lunch where I usually have a root beer half diluted with water. Adult beverages are reserved for after the children hit the sack.

    I might add that throughout my workday I pair my work with coffee

    I'm not a huge smoker, just the occasional pipe or cigar, but I am a big wine drinker..!

    What wine I had depends on what I'm eating with it, or if I'm eating at all. I generally will have New World wines if I'm just having a glass of something, perhaps a Chilean or Argentinian Malbec or a crisp Aussie white.

    With spicy food I usually go with a Sauvignon Blanc or Chenin Blanc, something with a good lychee taste to put out the flames. Semillon works well with Indian food too.

    With some of the more pickled stuff a Gewurtztraminer works well as its floral nature tends to compliment the bite of the pickle.

    As a ground rule I tend to try and match the food to the wine of the region, as thats what used to be drunk with the food back in the day!

    Cheese and red wine are going to be the death of me, thats for sure..!

    Interesting.

    Is this for a supposed benefit of the children, or just something like a variable 'no drink before 8 o clock' rule?

    Great thread.

    For a pipe - good strong English tea

    For pasta - good red wine

    For a steak - Guinness Stout

    For conversation - single malt or bourbon

    Well since you all have been so kind as to share I might as well share too.

    I don't smoke a pipe so I don't pair that with anything.
    For a cigar it's usually water or a favorite of mine which is metaxa(brandy)
    With food I like a coke or root beer. But if I'm going to be drinking I like a nice red wine. I love the wolfblass Shiraz so I tend to just drink that with everything. Of course a nice beer of any kind is never out of line

    If I'm drinking socially I like to have a vodka with orange and cranberry. I know not as strong as some of you would like, but too many bad experiences with hard liquor and the liver needs a break lol.
