Thanked: 1Damascus Knife (and proof I need to make razors)
Well this is my first (finished) damascus knife. 7 or so layers of 15n20 and 1095. The 'flaws' are the weld lines between the layers of 15n20 that I doubled up so they would be the same thickness as the 1095. there is some alloy banding as well in the 1095 which is rather annoying.
I know the woods are odd, but they were scraps I couldn't bear to waste.

You seem to be working the opposite way that I'm going.....you're learning more of the basics (forgewelding) and I'm learning to better finish my stuff.
Looks really nice. But it also looks like it could do with some more thought on things such as shape, polish etc.
Awesome that you forgewelded your own stuff though (at least I think you did). That's one thing I have yet to try.

Thanked: 1936If you feel you are ready for razors, get after it! I must warn you though, razors are 10x as hard to make as a knife.

Thanked: 1Honestly Ive been able to forge weld for a while, I just never made and damascus before. Cable-mascus and welded up do-hickys are another matter. It just didn't make any sense to make it till now.
I do plan to make a ladder pattern razor one of these days. I just keep burning the tangs as I forge them and just make them into small knives. LOL The folding bit is the hard part I think, and Ive already made a folder and It wasn't really all that hard compared to making a fence (and easier to fix!). Though I did crack the scales peining over the pins.
