Good Eats - Rochester, NY
I thought it might be nice to have a thread with some local places to eat out.
I would highly recommend you check out Tavern 58 (58 University Ave, by Gibbs Street). JoeD and CarrieM turned me onto them with a gift certificate, and I've gone back a bunch of times since then.
I don't know how I'd describe what kind of place it is - I guess pub meets steakhouse? You'd be out of place in a t shirt, but you don't need to suit up. The menu is something like a modern take on pub food, and more classy as well. Nice selection of drinks, and they have a scotch menu! They also cook everything on site, including their bread and chips (great spinach & artichoke dip).
Last night I took my girlfriend. I had a fantastic hangar steak with a Makers Mark and she had mahi-mahi and a Riesling. And of course, we split the spin dip.

Well, round these parts the only place would be the trough. It's pretty run down and rats run around the place and roaches play on your table but they is trained to do that and they take baths every day. The fair changes depending on what Bubba is able to catch. yea the food have marks on them too usually Goodyear or Uniroyal. He don't have no fancy fru-fru wine he make his own in the back in a still. But the prices are good, a whole meal less than ten bucks and if you got no money he'll take some live animals in exchange. He be famous for his braised Possum and steamed dandelion and sumac soup. Don't forget to have dessert, some badger slobber cream pie.

Probably my favourite lunch haunt in the City is Bow Wine Vaults, thats a really great little wine bar. I'm also a fan of the Gaucho Grill restaurants, but I only go there a couple of times a year as its pretty pricey! Jamies is pretty decent too, just round the corner from BWV.
I'm in Canary Wharf now and I'm still searching for a good lunchtime bar. Davy's is at the top of the list at the moment, but thats a chain so it doesnt have much character. Pretty much all the bars and restaurants here are chains which is a shame really.
Back home theres the White Horse in Shere, the Toby Cottage in Ripley, Lo Stivale in Cobham and the White Hart in Pirbright to name just a few.
Once you get into SoHo and the West End of London theres about a billion different places to go so its hard to do a list of places there..!

Ah yes. I love the Toad. Haven't been in a while; I'll have to go through soon. I love the beer selection there, and I quite like the food as well.
You might also want to check out Tap & Mallet. Also a fantastic beer selection, and something of a classy type of pub/bar food.Last edited by holli4pirating; 11-25-2010 at 03:00 AM.
