You don't find that kind of spirit in this day and age too often.

    Good for her!

And all the best to the coach, what a horrible thing to have to live with.

    Default Sorry fellows,

I'm not going to jump onto this bandwagon.

That assistant coach negligently ignored a life threatening condition in one of his athletes by not ending that girl's race and getting her medical attention immediately.

Fit sixteen year old people don't become disoriented and collapse unless something is seriously wrong.

    Badly misplaced priorities.

That's actually not true. Simple over exertion can cause that to happen. It's happened to me multiple times during my teenage years. I've been tested, prodded and screened in all sorts of manners. Nothing wrong with me. I simply pushed myself beyond my own limits.

There is a certain point where the body simply says "I can't take anymore" and will take it's rest right there and then. For most people this rarely (if ever) happends. For some more so.

I would agree except for one simple fact. She collapsed TWO yards from the finish line. She only had to crawl two yards and it took her 20 seconds. Her medical attention was delayed by that 20 seconds. If she had been in need of immediate medical attention and had not simply collapsed from exhaustion, then she would not have been able to crawl. Fit 16 year olds DO collapse from exhaustion all the time when they are pushing hard in training. When I played football in high school, we would have 3 or 4 drop every day during the first two weeks of conditioning training.

    Nice story Jimmy.
