Splunger was the best dog I've ever had. Truthfully, it was hard thinking of him as a dog. He got me thru a rough spot in my life a few years ago. When he died, I planted him in my backyard and planted a red maple on top of him. Every year, I pause a moment at the time he died, go out to tree and talk to him.
It's as rough as the death of our family and friends.

Funny, that's what the whale said about his human friend.
I've had to bury a few dogs myself. I share your pain.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Time may fade, but can never erase
the memories of a true & trusted friend.
So sorry for your loss. I lost my boxer about 9 years ago. Not a day passes without thinking about her.

I am so sorry for your loss!
I so agree with you, why can't they live longer??
Having done this a few times myself with my own beloved dogs over the years, I truly sympathize with you and yours.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 0I'm very sorry to hear about Buster. Those eyes of his look like they were understanding ones, and I can imagine it would have been tough to say goodbye to him.
I've had to say goodbye to a few great dogs over the years, and it's never been easy for me. Rather than pay the unnecessary vet bill to have an animal put down, I've always opted to do it myself, and I typically put the barrel of my .30-'06 at the base of their skulls. I hate doing it and I hate what it does to my little friends, but that's just the way it's done in the country. My Dad used to do the same with his dogs when they got too old to walk and hunt also.
Stay strong. The bad times will pass.
