Thread: Getting first barber shave

On Saturday I'm getting my first shave from a barber. I'm very excited about this, I've never been face-to-face with another straight razor user, so I'm hoping to get some tips from him. I had some spare time today, so I started calling every barber shop in the city.

There is a guy up the road from my place that has a collection of straights and does the full treatment by appt, Has a booth with chair and all set up for it

I love giving face shaves to customers. Its one of my favorite parts of the job.

Good luck. Just make sure you take a picture of your face just in case the surgeon has to put it back together again.

Awesome. I get one from my barber every wedding anniversary. It is a luxurious experience. The only drawback (if you could call it that) is that my barber uses a disposable feather. Otherwise I get the whole Proraso, two pass hot towel and bay rum routine and love it. Hope its a good one for you.

I think most states mandate disposable razors for sanitary reasons.

I hope the OP has a good experience. There is a classic barber a few blocks from my place who does straight shaves. I need to get in there some time.

Got a present of a hot towel shave for my birthday yesterday. So went out to my barber this afternoon and brought my collection of 6 razors with me for him to have a look at.

We decided that he was going to use one of my straights while shaving me. Must admit it was nice to get a professional hot towel shave from one of my own razors.

As I left he had a huge smile on his face as it was his first time using a proper straight and told me the next time I'm in for a shave to bring a few razors with me.

I'm sure you will enjoy the shave at the weekend.

That is fantastic.

I attempted the same thing with my big 8/8 Henckels over here. Freshly honed by John Crowley.

The barber said it wasnt sharp enough.

May try again soon with one of my sheffields straight off the thuringian.

I am so jealous... it would have been so slick to see the look of wonderment and satisfaction on that barbers face.
