Default Vivian Maier 'Unknown' Street Photographer

Listening to today's broadcast of To The Point I heard of the discovery of thousands of photos by an unknown Chicago nanny, the late Vivian Maier. She won't be unknown for long. The story is in a blog from the guy who has most of her photos and negatives. A book is forthcoming and a film documentary. The photos are exceptional if you are into that sort of thing and examples are here. There are many blog pages with new photos so when you get to the bottom of the page click 'next' for more.

Edit; more of the lady's wonderful photos are here .

Thanks for sharing this Jimmy Wonderful work indeed. What an eye Vivian had. And a remarkable talent for turning the everyday into the completely stunning.

Her stuff reminds me of Walker Evans work or Lewis Hine. Right up there with the best of them. What blows my mind is she probably never saw most of her exposures developed in her lifetime. I guess capturing the moments was the end in itself. For me, having been alive during the periods she covered the images are particularly poignant. Brings back memories of long gone times and places.

Her work is really quite special. It is like she took the frame and was just not there. Just a fixture in the middle of it all, like a pillar of concrete. I am looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you for sharing this Jimmy,

That lady really had the magic eye of capturing the moment. Very, very interesting and sort of touching photography. Some of those pics turn regular everyday moments into something worth deeper thinking.

Thanx for the links jimmy ! Awesome pics , some bordering on the surreal.
