Thanked: 102Wishlist
I have always enjoyed quality products. Things that hold up to hard use and last are usually inexpensive in the long run. Thought I would share a few items that I have or would like to have. If anyone has any expierence with any of these items please let us know how well they served you:
Sunspel Underwear - This is suspose to be underwear that is issued to officers of the British armed forces. www.sunspel.com
Ben Davis Jeans - These used to be called Frisco Jeans. They were popular with longshoremen and loggers on the westcoast. Charles Bronson wore them in the final fight scene in the movie, "Hard Times".
They are available from www.gorillagear.com
Bridgedale Socks - I have worn these for years - they will last and are warm and comfortable. Best I ever used. www.bridgedale.com.
White Boots - I have a pair of their model 375 boots that I have worn over twenty years. Sent back to the factory for rebuild several times.
They have a 5 inch high light work shoot that they have recently remodeled made with Hoween taned leather that has a cap toe and looks like it could be worn to the opera or an an operation. www.whiteboots.com.
Blauer black mock turtleneck pullovers. Blauer is a company who makes uniforms for Police officers. The pullover is a favorite of swat teams. They are comfortable, stylish and last for years. www. blauer.com.
Bradley Dive Watch - The Corvus Watch Company makes this watch. It has a Swiss movement with a case designed after the fashion of the World War II. UDT Diving watches. It is called the Bradley because Gen Omar Bradley was on the board of directors of the Boluva Watch Co. It looks some what like the Blanchpain 50 Fathom watch. They also sell the James Bond style watch band in a heavy duty version. www.corvuswatch.com.
Persol Sunglasses - Baddddest Shades on the planet in my opinion.
www.persol.com.
Dodge Power Wagon - Dodge has been making a heavy duty 3/4 ton four wheel drive truck for nearly 65 years. Thousands of these were used by the Military. They are tough. The old ones came with a flathead six cylinder engine that put out about 90 horsepower. The latest has the Hemi mill. Awsome.
Any comments welcome.

Maybe not but Sean Connery was Dwayn, back in my ironworker days, Red Wing "Irish Setter" boots, with the one piece wedge soles so the flanges on beams wouldn't catch your heel, and Carhart coveralls and coat were de rigueur for a structural man. If you were a welder on 'red iron' in the 1970s Wrangler and Dee Cee blue denim shirts with the snaps on the sleeves to keep the fire out. Red Wings with the white wedge soles but the Wellington style so the fire wouldn't eat up your shoelaces.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 102Jimmy:
I never was a James Bond fan. Did think the Rolex Submariner without the date and the striped watch band was cool. It always amazed me how after the Bond craze started the number of people I knew who went out and bought a Walther PPK. Lousy sights, lousy trigger, anemic cartridge
I have relatives who were welders and ironworkers and they wore exactly the clothing you mentioned.
Red Wings and Irish Setter boots are great but a railroad track would eat the soles up in no time. Some nights I would spend 10 hours in a freight yard and never get out of the ballast.

I've recently started reading up on my watches. The Bradley does look well constructed, but not my style. I really dislike watches that have shapes at the hour positions. The only exception is the triangles at 12 on the B-uhr's (and I really would prefer a 12 to be honest, but I still want a B-uhr - looking at buying an avator...). I went with a DeepBlue DayNight Ops. Watch people probably wouldn't be too excited about the Myota movement, but it's running steadily at +3 per day, so I'm happy. Key features (aka reasons I love it):
Size (46 mm I think...); numerals for each hour, 10's on the bezel with minute marks, black face, T100 tritium hour indeces/bezel pip/hands
Am I supposed to share what's on my wishlist?
My practical wishlist contains a Maratac Pilot's watch - I say practical because I could spend that much on another watch (there are others I like more, but couldn't bring myself to spend the money at the moment)

A lot of hype on that watch site. Also a lot of money for what you are getting which is why they have all the hype.

+1 on the built in the USA redwings. Wear'em every day on the cement floor with no leg pain for 20+ years. But i would dump the Dodge,on a quiet day you can hear them rust,up here in the Northeast.

Thanked: 102Thanks guys for the info on the watch and the power wagon.
I have heard from several sources that the ETA movement in the watch is highly overated. I am not very knowledgeable about quality watches.
On the Dodge Power Wagon - have heard both good and bad things.
Stopped in a 7/11 late one night in central Alabama. Guy drove in with a GMC pickup. In the rear window he had a decal that stated, "I eat Fords and Chevy's and shit Dodges. I quietly started my little Ford Ranger and backed out before the GMC noticed me so I could avoid injury.
