Default Anyone could point to good source for pipe smoking?

Hi, I am not sure if tabaco is considered one of the finer things in life.
    But I will ask anyway.

Is there any reliable sources and forum focused on pipe smoking and
related issues, in a similar way by which this wonderful SRD and SRP has presented?

I am at the place that I decide to smoke a pipe, shave with straight, and
start to drink whiskey. Anyone can point me to the direction about
the purchase a quality pipe, decent cleaner, and accessories, and the
proper techniques for smoking a pipe (if there is any).

    Thank you very much.

There's a monthly publication called Cigar Aficionado...I believe.

It's obviously geared towards towards cigars, but if you lurk around the internet using that as a starting point you're bound to find something.

I never got into too much, but a cheap $5 "corncob" pipe is great for beginning and learning how to light/tamp/smoke a pipe. It's kinda like straights in that everyone gets there own technique after awhile but there are basics that everyone follows.

Like I said, never got to far into it before I decided I just don't like smoking as any habit but I tried every pipe tobacco I could get my hands on without ordering online. Probably a dozen, good ole "Captain Black" was hands down the favorite. The runner up was Middleton's Cherry, but you can get "tongue bite" very easy if you go too fast. It was easy to ruin, while captain black was hard to mess up.

IIRC, there is a smoking forum called Puff.com I was there sometime ago, but was not a regular poster.

Do a google search for pipe-pedia, and you'll find a Wiki for pipe smoking technique and such.

As for pipes; I have a Lorenzetti, a Brigham, and a Savinelli. Peterson are also great pipes, but a little out of my budget at this point.

I love my Lorenzetti. It's my workhorse. Any tobacco tastes great in it, whereas my Savinelli is only for lightly flavoured tobaccos.

There is as much ritual and technique in pipe smoking as in straight shaving. It's a lot of fun, takes some practice getting it to stay lit, and to properly carbon the bowl. Have fun!

There used to be, and maybe still is, a google group called alt.smokers.pipes. Also a UK based Pipe Smoking Forums , or something like that. Someone will be along with better info. There are some books and something like Weber's Guide To Pipe Smoking or Hacker's, The Ultimate Pipe Book will give good tips on packing and smoking a pipe. Although my father smoked one until he was 84 I learned from a book rather than from him.

There is a learning curve and if you do it incorrectly it will not be an enjoyable experience. Tongue bite is not pleasant. OTOH, if done correctly, with patience and easy slow puffing, almost like breathing but you don't inhale, it is very pleasant. Similar to straight razor shaving in that patience and a light touch give the best results. Zen like, the antithesis of type A state of mind.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm new to pipe smoking and I'm still in the learning and discovery stage of the game. Hopefully some more seasoned pipe smokers will give you some direction. Two sites that have been great learning tools for me are TobaccoReviews.com - The largest collection of pipe tobacco reviews on the internet and www.pipes.org. Also be sure to check out Pipe of the Day on SRP.

When looking for tobacco, the tobaccoreviews.com is a great place read smoker's reviews before purchasing and you can generally order directly from the source listed on this site. For pipes there are on-line sites to purchase new and estate pipes, but don't overlook eBay. I have gotten several estate pipes and non-smoked pipes from eBay at a fraction of the price of new. Good luck and have fun.

Those are the two sites I was going to point the OP toward... they taught me everything I know. Well, everything about pipes anyway.

I've been smoking pipes for years and giving up smoking cigarettes was maybe one of the best decisions in my life.
You've already got good advices from JimmyHAD and other gents so i'm not going to repeat them. Just remember it takes some time, learning and patience until you get along with it. It is not something to do when hurry.

Tobaccoreviews.com is somewhat useful and very informative site, but sometimes i feel that even half of the folks writing reviews there haven't actually smoked them at all. Surely there are certain fellows who know what they are writing about.

I'm no active in any English pipe smoking forums but there are few sites i visit every now and then:

    Brothers of Briar
    Smokers Forums
