I quite like Bell's for a blended scotch. I found Glenlivet quite harsh, but with the single malts, there are so many different flavours. Many years ago (many, many) at Christmas the LCBO carried a sampler pack of six miniatures of the 'better' single malts. Hopefully you can find something like that so you don't blow your budget only to find you don't like that particular one. There may be a pub near you that features scotches so you can taste several different ones.

I just learned there is a Canadian single malt. Glen Breton. But it is $90 a bottle. I haven't tried it. Yet.

A Scotts man told me to splash a little cold water into your glass with no ICE
Glenlivet 12 year single malt is prob best bang for your buck and quality!
A little h20 can make a world of difference which opens the smell and flavors and keeping a little harshness/bitterness. These drinks need a little bite or else they wouldn't be a mans drink. The original question is whiskey…Canadian Club Reserve is not bad for the price.

Is it me or do ppl here find scotch and whiskey to give them more of a sophisticated buzz? Drunk non the less but still in control... unlike tequila and beer which makes me feel unstoppable. And yes I drink to get drunk or else what’s the point.

I love those. Taste good, not sure about the flavour as I am usually a tea drinker to keep me sober.

I am going to go against the grain here and say I have always thought crown was overrated.....

I did have some special reserve that was not bad, from what I can remember though.

+1 A little splash of good water.

In many places the best water is melted ice thus I
mention ice rather than rant on the bad water that
    most have ready access to.

Glenlivet or Chivas Regal are my preferred scotch. However, I am a Southern gentleman with taste for Kentucky bourbon and Tennesee whiskey. For my money, Gentleman Jack Daniels (not Old No. 7 - "black label"). It roughly $35 a fifth, smooth and slightly sweet. Gentleman Jack and Coca-Cola is really all I drink anymore. For about double the price is Single Barrel Jack Daniels (their premium product). That's for more special occasions. I imagine it's also the "sippin' whiskey" serve in Heaven.

If you want something smooth and easy to drink try Jim Beams' RED STAG.
