G'day Geoff, what was the chain of barbers they were doing the SR shaves mate? I was just wondering if there was one in the city, I work in the city. I live in Salisbury, just round the corner, well almost.

I was chatting my my old barber here the other day. John (I think he's Itallian and I can't spell his last name) was lamenting that the kids these days don't know how to strop a razor because they're not taught how any more. When he taught at the TAFE college it was a requirement, but now they all use those disposible blade things there's no point. His shop doesn't even have any old strops or razors any more.
Hi Stu,
Yeah, just down the highway and near my favourite motorcycle leathers shop as well.
Just a quick question for you - do you reckon I'd be able to strop on my leather pants or a belt when I am away with the boys on our yearly trip to save carrying a strop with me?
I can't remember the name, however they are advertising shops at Carindale, Oxley, The Barracks and another one that I can't remember ATM.
I'll make a note of the details when I hear the ad again and let you know.
Cheers,
Geoff
Geoff, I doubt stropping on your strides is a great idea for a couple of reasons. One, you might find it difficult to get a good flat surface with you leathers and two if you might put a nick in your pants if you have a slip. A belt might be a suitable alternative for your strop while your away as long as you have a nice smooth surface, i.e. no stitching or punchwork. I have used an old leather belt in a bind before. I have a 'Roo strop that is really thin that MickR made for me earlier this year and it is great. Mick lives up near Redcliffe and if you send him a PM he might make you a nice 'Roo travel strop for a fee. Mick is a great bloke, very helpful.
Anyway, hope this helps.

Oi, are you brown nosin' Stu?! You know I'm right here don'cha?!...
Geoff, I too, wouldn't recommend stopping on ya leather strides for no other reason than I wouldn't want to nick them. I'm running low on 'roo hide, but if you're not particular about dimensions, I could do something up for you. Don't feel pressured though mate. You can strop on a smooth belt too (and I can even make you one of those as well :) ). If it helps, and I am only assuming from what you've said, I carry a home made 2" 'roo strop when I'm out on the bike. I just roll it up and chuck it in with my gear. I could send you the bits (for a small fee, sorry about that) to make your own if you like. Anyway, I'm happy to help out if I can.
Mick
No Mick, not brown nosin'. Just really happy with the strop I got from you, and the help you gave me.
ARRRRGGGHHH! Geez mate. Don't sneak up on a bloke like that. Sh!t that was quick. Were you hidin' behind the door or somethin'?! :)
In all seriousness, I'm glad you're happy with it. I always like to feel that I have done good by someone. I would hate to think someone felt gipped by my handicraft.
Mick
Thanks Mick,
I am an old Sandgate boy myself and my parents still live there so I have more than enough reasons to go for a ride in that direction.
If a nick from a razor is all the damage my leathers get I'll be really happy, given that my last 'get-off' was at around 130.....hehehehe
I'll PM you and see if we can catch up sometime soon, if you don't mind.
Don't apologise about charging for your work - we all need to be compensated for our skills and outlays.
I don't mind charging fairly for my work 'cause I'm good at what I do.
Talk to you soon.
Cheers,
Geoff
BTW the barber advertising is called Jimmy something, I think.
By all means, next time you're up this way, let me know. Always happy to meet a fellow 'Cut-Throat' :).
I located a Barber in Toowoomba that does CT shaves too. I haven't tried them out yet. Female Barber who only does them on Saturdays and Mondays from what I was told when I 'phoned about them.
