I know exactly what you mean. I've tried the pomade/gel routine too, but my whiskers are so wirey and unruly that even that doesn't help much. When the stache ends up getting longer and is bugging me what I often end up doing, and it's mostly an unconcious thing, is to use 2 fingers to brush the hairs to each side, which more or less "trains" it over time. All part of the responsibilities of wearing the 'stache....
