Look at all the things you can have today... HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Flesh Eating Virus & The Brain Eating Amoeba: Naegleria fowleri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
OK.. So I guess I will change my years... 1900's-1920's and I will take what little knowledge that I have back with me
However, the 1860's would still be great so I could meet my Great Great Great Grandfather...

I started looking into straight because I didnt like the mass-produced options. I cant stand Scotch, I have 5 pipes 2 were my fathers and I havent smoke any of them in years, I love cigars but have other things that bring me more enjoyment like fly fishing. I build my own fly rods and tie my own flies. I even build a 5' fly rod for my grand-daughter and taught her to roll cast it when she was 3.
And this is mostly for AFDavis, I played a mean (actually neutral-good) cleric back in the day and was a bastard of a DM. And I would love to learn to sail.

Thanked: 884What America needs now is a good five cent nickel.
I like old stuff and doing things the old ways myself. While I do have some high speed. low drag WWII era firearms. My favorite rifle to shoot is my flinter.
built and "scrimmed" my own horns.
No calluses on my thumb from starting my old knuck when I had it either.
My pan is kick only and will remain as such until I can't kick it. When that happens, I'll get rid of it and hang up my spurs.

Thanked: 0For what its worth, i feel the same way about a lot of these things. Just got into straight razors, been smoking and enjoying cigars for years, dabbled in pipes for a while, Shooting skeet every now and then, and i've even picked up the style of wearing tailored suits with pocket squares on special occasions. send me back to the 1920's.
im 23, and this kinda stuff just interests me.

Thanked: 1160Latecomer on this but I have to agree with nose on this one.I grew up in the woods of northern Michigan on a lake. With all the mosquitos and lake water I gulped down on accident while swimming we never heard of nor worried about west nile virus or brain eating amoebas or zebra mussels or lamprey eels. Now I'm all paranoid of my home enviroment thanks modern media and world. Thanks for all the GMO veggies and corn syrup and obnoxious cell phones and etc. I can't wait for the mother of all sunspots to knock us down a peg and make us self reliant and humble again. although I've said before I would miss talking to my overseas friends that I never would have met without a computer....Still...simple and humble is good .

Thanked: 2It was delightful reading through this thread. Sometimes when I mull through SRP threads I feel like a bit of an outsider because it does seem the majority are hunters and men of the days of yore. I am a little more mainstream for better or worse. Don't get me wrong, I love my cigars and scotch. I just view the straight razor shaving as more enjoyable than the mach 3. I don't collect straights or anything really.
I am trully thankful for this community, it is enlightening on a number of levels.
