My god, how did this thread get to 12 posts without someone mentioning the great Fawlty Towers???
I would also say that Extras is a modern classic. The episode where David Bowie rips Ricky Gervais apart via song is an favourite for sure.
I hope you guys have been treated to QI, the original TV series of the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Out Numbered.
Currently Miranda is a firm favourite with the family.
As for slightly crude British humour try Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and The Inbetweeners.
Frieennnddd..
Can't believe nobody mentioned Danger Mouse, Wallace and Grommit, Worzel Gummage and the original Life On Mars.
Also +1 for Red Dwarf. Some seriously messed up stuff right there! :)
Everything else I can think of has already been mentioned ... but it's worth noting that the wife hand knitted me a Dr Who scarf (from the Tom baker era).
Try the Royle Family BBC - Comedy - The Royle Family
Classics!
I am an absolute nut for Last of the Summer Wine, Have you been Served, Keeping up Appearances (I call my Mother-in-law Hyecenth, Pisses her off!), and the Vicar of Dibley! Indeed, Wallace and Grommit! Nuts!
Not sure if it can be mentioned in the same thread, but 'top gear' is in a league of it's own for me, perfectly balances information and comedy with it's special brand of homour. They really make you feel that they'd be a great bunch of guys to have a pint with.
Father Ted cracks me up al the time. There are some true classics on British telly and some great present programmes (Dr Who for instance), all the same there is also a load of shite. (Coronation Street, Eastenders, Brookside, Emmerdale - once called Emmerdale Farm when it had animals in it.. to name but a few yawn inducing soaps. Crossroads was the worst, they even brought it back out after several years but it died a deserved death.. again.. and was pulled)
Even Last of the summer wine was brilliant to start off with but after many years it became stale with everything just being repeated over and over again. *sigh*
I'd rate most of the programmes listed by others above to be very watchable. Always interested to see the start of Fawlty Towers where the name was jumbled up on the sign (watch out for that one). One day it was Watery Owls, and on another it was Flowery Twats - dunno how they got away with that one lol.
