The process of removing the barrel by loosening the barrel nut etc. DOES NOT APPLY to these rifles. That feature is used on Savage bolt action rifles. Using headspace gauges or a cartridge and the appropriate barrel nut wrench you can swap barrels easily. The 99 is a wonderful rifle and can be quite valuable. Disassembly, while not really difficult should be handled by someone qualified.

I should have been more specific about this difference between the 99 and the bolt rifles. My poor reference could have led someone astray. It was good of you to point that out.

As in any profession, qualification may not reflect competence, it's merely the beginning point of an education for some that may or may not improve with time. A very good example would be the honing professionals on this site and others. There are no certificates on the wall, but your face will tell you immediately if they know what they are doing or not.
