You know Bob, strapping on a nice new watch is a great feeling. It's like a new pair of cowboy boots or hat or a new car.
Go ahead and treat yourself. You deserve it.
An example of a fine watch in it's time, can still be had on eBay or online if you can find a good, well kept example from a reputable seller is the Bulova Super Seville "Day & Date", an Homage piece to the famous Rolex Day-Date at a tenth of the price.
This is a fine watch, very well made, and would last you a lifetime if well cared for. I've had my eyes on grabbing one for years (even though I own a Rolex Day-Date), just because, like vintage Timex, they are superbly made watches.
This is the beauty I'm after, love the blue dial, but a green dial would be my preference, they come with lots of different dials:

Thanks, I didn't know about that model, Phrank.
Bulova also came out with a model called the "Accuswiss" a few years later. it was around the time Citizen gobbled Bulova up. They are totally Swiss made pieces originally list priced for around $1200. You can still find some on Eboy NOS for around $400. Now that's a bargain.
I haven't seen any of the ones you mention in at least NOS condition. I guess used you can get one.
I don't know I would call vintage Timex very good watches. They were mostly riveted together and when they stopped you chucked them. Yea they lasted a long time with so so accuracy and could "Take a lickin". I would call them very well engineered but not great quality.
Today I'm carrying my MWC Military automatic pocket watch, in stainless steel and sapphire crystal glass, I believe it has a Seiko/TMI/SII calibre NH35A movement.
Very nice, even has what we would call the pusser broad arrow mark.
