Hi all, I'm currently on the search for a pocket watch. I'm wanting something not too cheep but not super expensive seeing as i'm on a part-time gas station attendant salary. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

You didn't say if you want new or vintage, quartz or mechanical. You can get a basic new quartz for not much. Wally World sells them.

Thanked: 198i have tried many of the ones from wally world and have found them to be very lacking, IMO i would go more with a vintage watch, it will last better than most. the quartz ones from wally world never seem to hold up, or time for that matter.

Well, if you want vintage and you go with a common Elgin a tad on the rough side in maybe 12 size you should be able to get one in your price range. However, it will probably require an overhaul which will set you back $120 or so. You need to be careful with vintage because you need to educate yourself first. You could wind up with something that looks good and seems to run good for 30 days or so and then find out it needs costly repairs.

Thanked: 198this is true, i seem to remember a brand from when i was younger, in my early teens, but for some reason the name escapes me, it didnt have much in the way of jewels, but it was a fairly dependable pocket watch for the money, and, the mid 70's

The last pocket watches I remember still being at least partially made here were the Westclock Big Bens and bullseyes which were from the 70s. I used to have one. I think they cost around $30 or so back then.

A quick look on Amazon found some interesting watches.
Decide if you want electric or mechanical.
Decide if you want a cover or open face.
Decide if you want a lanyard, default chain or something special.
I would hunt for a watch at sporting good shops
and web sites. I noticed a couple on Cabela's site.
I have seen handy folk take an ordinary sport watch
and use leather to make it into a pocket or belt
watch. I have seen some replacement watch bands
that are made for this purpose. Some use Velcro
and nylon straps combined with leather.
I saw some other great answers. If you are
on a budget spend more time shopping....
Look/Ask around the local farm tractor/ truck supply shop.
You might find a John Deer or other promotional watch
sitting on a shelf. Truck stops too.

Seiko makes several models both quartz and mechanical. They are hard to source outside Japan but there are a couple on-line retailers Japan based who sell them. I'm thinking the quartz models are probably a couple hundred.
