We have two trees in the back yard. Male - Female thing. We used to harvest them when my grandmother was alive. She was home all day and would scare away the squirrels. Now we just clean up after them. We also have a black walnut tree in the front yard, that's just too much work for the return.
As you probably know ... Wear gloves! if you're going to hand shell them . It'll stain you for weeks if you don't.

my uncle has taught his dog to go get them and drop them in a bucket. About a quarter of the time the dogs eats them before they get in the bucket but hey gotta pay him somehow.
No that pistol isn't the only thing under my kilt, but I can tell you both of them work just fine

i tend to avoid the black walnuts all together, i hate the way they smell, like the wood though.

There is a record crop here in MN. Dangerous to walk in the woods as you might twist an ankle.

Live on a 100 acre English walnut ranch. Harvest is in full swing.
