Dad made me feel like a kid this Chrstmas.
My dad made feel like a kid this Christmas. We passed out all the family gifts this evening and watched the kids enjoy their new goodies. OF course we adults are taking the pics and helping the kids put their toys together like usual.
Then Dad elbows me and says, "Come down stairs I want to show you something". He hands me the rifle and say merry Christmas. Along with it he gave me a few hundred rounds of fire formed cases, two extra scopes, and a complete set of dies for reloading. I remembered what those kids upstairs were feeling like.
The rifle is a custom built varmint rifle in 22-40 Ackley. Built on a Remington 40XBR action and a stainless Hart match grade barrel. As you can see from the two five shot groups and one six shot group in the second pic, this baby knows how to toss lead downrange.
Coyotes, crows and prairie dogs watch out. here I Come

Beautiful rifle, something to pass on, from generation to generation.
Now it's reloading time!

Merry Christmas Ray. Actually, looks like your dad's already got you covered.
Looks like you'll have a blast.
Okay, I'll stop now. I have to say that's a really cool thing your dad did.

Oh that's good. At least you didn't say,"You'll shoot your eye out with that"
It was pretty cool of him and totally not expected.
Deerhunter,
Funny you mention that. There is a 20 ga semi auto that I used to rabbit hunt with as a kid. The gun originally belonged to my dad's step dad. Anyway, it has made the rounds in the family and as people have passed on and others have no interest in hunting or shooting, it has come back around to dad's hands. He told me to pick it up next time I come down to his place. He wants me to have it because I grew up with it.
Its nice when those things you didn't think much of as a kid come back around and have so much more significance to you in your adult years. Those things bring back memories of the good old days when you were young, care free and invincible. That gives them way more value than they originally had.

That is really awesome to see. Love those kind of stories. At what distance were those groups? Nice and tight for sure.

In that moment there were 2 blessing Ray. The 1st was the odvious one and was your seer look of joy for the rifle, scope, rounds and reloading gear. The 2nds IMO had bto be the look of pride and joy you father held as watched his son, now grown man, cast the smile of boy who just took first duck deer etc...
Remember that, and rememeber to pass it on to your own kin and others...
In the man time...enjoy the heck out of that rifle!!
