You take care of Homers' rifle, now... and it'll take care of you!

    Hey Wullie,
I forgot that I had this old photo from 1962 of me with my M1 Garand (Non-Lethal Version). My mode of transportation can be seen behind me.

The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) has good deals on M-1's quite frequently. They're rebuilt to spec and all are good shooters. Might check on of those out before you spend a bunch on banger that may or may not run like it should. google CMP or Civilian Marksmanship Program.

M-1's are awesome old rifles but they can be a royal PItA if not set up right or worn out.

That SMLE is a heck of a battle rifle. Hard to get one of those beasts to lay down on ya', and they'll shoot a "minute" of man all year long.
picked up my lee from one of my uncles buddies who was moving and needed some cash he wanted 100 for it but i only had 65$ on me so he sold it for 65$ .

paid 65$ for my lee this past spring a friend of my uncle was moving and needed cash and i had 65$ on me so he sold it to me. heck of a good price considering all it needed was a safty latch I sent it away to have a military style scope put on it a low power because it will be my new bear rifle.

I tell ya, I'd have NEVER in wildest dreams ever thought and SMLE would bring $65. I pretty much grew up in the 60's and was buying mail order guns until they rammed the GCA of '68 down our throats. I remember ads for NICE 98K's in full dress for $12.95 plus a dollar or so for freight. 8MM ammo from WWII was a penny a round DELIVERED if you bought $5 worth. Of course a good hourly wage back then was $3 an hour and gas was around a quarter. I chopped cotton and and drove an old Farmall tractor breaking wheat stubble for 10 cents and hour in 64 and thought I was making ALL the money in the world.

I've bought sold and traded guns all my life until about 10 years ago. I looked around and saw I that if I wanted to haul ass, it would take BIG truck to tote all my guns and ammo. I retired for a couple of years and lived off my guns. I've had some serious offers for that Garand, but I just grin and tell 'em thanks but no thanks. It was fun while it lasted and I don't have to worry about somebody stealing 'em now. There are 4 or 5 I can think of off the top of my head I wish I'd hung on to but I didn't. I've had some way neat and way out oddball stuff over the years from full auto to revolutionary war stuff up to the 'Nam era and in between.

Full auto is great if Uncle Sugar is buying your ammo. All I've got left are some pistols, a couple of deer rifles, and three shotguns. NONE of which were bought at a store.

AH the good old daze,my dad was a gunsmith,I aspired to be one,got out of TSJC and could not find a job so went in another direction.
Do you remember the late 50s?we bought garands,M1 carbines, colt M1911s surplus from the NRA at 50 bux a pop,you could walk into sears and buy a belgian Browning O.U off the rack for 300 bux.
The Emporeum sports departement sold mauser 98s for 13 bux, they had 100s of the darn things, them and Rolling blocks (same price).
