If your meniscus was on the left side, golf might cause you problems. If your torn meniscus was in your right knee, it would not be as much of a problem. Clubs have little effect on the quality of your golf. Get an old 7 iron from a flea market, get a new grip on it, then take a lesson. That will tell you whether you want to continue and spend more money.

If you are sure you want to get into the sport (not a cheap sport) Then go for it!

I disagree, I think you should get a full set, including driver. You will play with what you learn to play. If you use a hybrid 3 as a driver you won't learn how to hit a driver.

I would agree that you should get a used set of quality clubs: Titleist, Taylor Made, Ping, King and Callaway are all fantastic brands. It will be more difficult to locate a left handed set but they are out there. Stay away from Wilson brand clubs (mine started to fall apart after a few years of normal use). Especially in the beginning the brand of clubs you own is far less important than your swing. Don't over spend on your first set. Same with balls. I like maxfli Noodle golf balls and they are not that expensive.

Remember your swing is the most important part of your golf game, not your score, not your clubs. If you develop a good swing then your score will improve.

I'd deal with the issue of whether you can play golf and whether you will want to play golf. It is hard to learn and even harder to become proficient at it. Anybody can buy clubs. When I started I took weekly lessons for six weeks before I bought clubs. By then I was hooked, but there are plenty of used sets laying around because people bought clubs that they later discarded because of lack of use.

I am left handed also. I got a set of King Cobra irons (2-SW) on the bay for $80 delivered. Iam very happy with them so far.

Alright guys.. while thrifting I came across a booth at an antique mall that sold nothing but golf things.. I got a package deal of this Callaway golf bag, Callaway glove, Callaway couple hats and balls for $90 (all brand new btw) tell me I'm not a good bargain hunter ;D I might get a set of clubs from the guy but he leant me a couple clubs to try out. What a nice guy!
