How many of you drive stick?

Was reading this article, Top ten: Reasons Real Men Drive Stick- Top10: Reasons Real Men Drive Stick - AskMen


I loved this paragraph.

Anyway - it got me to thinking that well... real men shave with straights, or DE's too :). Driving stick and traditional shaving would seemingly go hand in hand. Is that the case? Vote on the pole and then tell us why you do or don't.

Just so you know - my car died last week - the only thing I am putting my foot down with, on my new buy is... I have to have stick :)!

Well. I cannot drive yet, but my fist car willl be a stick!

Now that's one nice car... and one that were you to do auto, has one of the best autos in the industry! But I am glad you are thinking for the car rather than the other way around. On that car it may be a crime otherwise lol. :)

Living in the UK stick is the norm. Automatics dont do it for me - spoils the driving experience.

It's been a little over ten years since I've had a stick(1989 Plymouth Arrow). I miss manual transmissions and still find myself reaching for a clutch on my AT cars.

I can't wait to get back to driving a stick. Being I am in KS, and well, it's not exactly hilly, or have that much traffic being there are less people in KS than a real city... this is going to be awesome lol :).

Not anymore, drove the same car with a stick for over 10 years and never went through a clutch either. We are down to one car and the SWMBO can't drive a stick. Don't miss the stick one bit especially in city traffic. Nice thing about getting older is you really don't feel the need to prove you have balls all the time.

I learned to drive on a stick and was hooked for life. Whenever I drive my fiance's car I'm constantly trying to press a clutch that's not there and it freaks me out a little bit when I go for it and my left foot just keeps going without touching anything lol.

I voted yes because I can and have driven/owned many a car/truck with a standard transmission. I like 'em. If they still made a ford e series van with a manual I'd have one. I've been driving this van for 11 years but ..... like I said, I can drive a stick.

LOL - I got to go to the Bob school of life! The older I get... the more I seemingly need to prove I still have balls :). Even with my 3 and 2 year old lol!

Back in my city days I recall being stuck on a hill for 20 min behind a conga line of traffic. It was hell and my left leg was shaking once I got up that hill. I had to pull into a Tim Horton's and get a little sugar/coffee thing going on while my leg calmed down lol.

Hilly city driving with a stick can get old... but then there's those Saturday at 3am rides that make up for it :).

No, not because of my wealth, but because I have two cars, one with a stick, the other with a Hybrid knob-thingy..
There are good things to be said for the stick shift.
Driving in snow and ice, it is a definite plus in my book, but with practice most anything works really

I was kind of joking about the wealth thing... but if you did have two cars just for yourself, one could consider that wealth :). It sure would make me happy lol.

I/we got one of each, I've been driving a stick for 15 years, but the car I drive most now is the one with auto transmission, SWMBO doesn't like driving it, she thinks it's too big and heavy....

Hilly driving with a stick in the city never bothered me. I just used the parking brake till it was time to move on instead of riding the clutch. Much easier on the leg and clutch. One of the few useful things I learned when I got my military drivers license, DND 404.

Learned on a manual, and have never owned anything else. I'm used to hearing people say "I don't know how to drive manual," and I like to joke with them and say "I don't know how to drive automatic."

Sometimes I take the wifes car out and bang through the gears, but 99 percent of the time its my automatic truck. I would like a semi automatic truck next.

I like it better, I feel more at one with the car. Both mine and my wife's car are stickshift. Also, if your battery goes dead you can push it...

Manual transmission is a requisite when I buy vehicles.

Im selling my baby.:td. Its a sad, sad time for me. Gotta make room for the new family vehicle, 2013 ford edge. My 1999 Dodge dakota R/T has to go. Never understood why Dodge only made them automatic. They most definitely should have been a manual trani. Ive had this truck for 12 years and now I have to say goodbye.:cry:

Oh dude I totally feel you... Kids have shaped my whole life in the last couple, three years! I never wanted a 4 door! Ever! But man, getting a kid in a booster seat in a two door, absolutely bites chunks! Such large chunks I got a 4 door. There was no way I could wait till they got old enough to hit the 40lbs booster seat where they can put themselves into it.

On a positive note though - I just took a test ride in the ford edge. Brother - ford has come a long way, and the toys that come with that car are sick! For sure get the back up camera! Kids move quickly! It's a nice midsize dad :).

Plus, no more buddy's asking you to help them move!! You'll have to get your free pizza and bear another way :).

Sticks are for pansies, the really macho guys drive an old Ladas with the battery removed and hand crank it. :nj

Wow, you just read me like a book. Its so true about pick up trucks and moving your friends. They expect it!!!! But the beer and pizza is one of my favs!!!

Ive had the edge for a week now and your right, Fords where its at right now. $400 more then the GM terrain and all I gotta say is Ecoboost!!!!!!! twin turbos and intercooled, in a family vehicle???? Hells yes I dont want the extended warranty!! Just the fabric guard for me puking baby.

I don't drive stick, but my wife does. She loves it.

Harley doesn't make an automatic. ;)

I've only ever driven stick. There's something about automatic that doesn't rub me right. Seems like a lazy way to do something. IMHO, driving, especially a sports car, should be enjoyable.

Current ride is a 95 Acura Integra GSR. Other is a 76 CB750F. And if you want to but a cafe racer, you'll need to build one. Another unspoken rule....

No I don't drive stick. I am more of a power steering, antilock brakes, automatic transmission, lazy kinda guy. If I could afford a chauffeur I'd hire one
