I have been writing with a fountain pen for years, and I got a dip pen this summer. It is amazing!

I have considered it myself, however, being that I work in a prison, it wouldn't be long before I had no ink and the inmates were sporting lovely tatts of Noodler's purple colouration.

Or someone would get stabbed with your pen. [I am sure that would entail a lot more paperwork!]

I can see the headlines now...'Prisoners use Dip's pen to pick locks and go on stabbing rampage'

Yeah! AND I wouldn't have a pen to do the paperwork with; the nib would be all bent!

Well you might be called a dip if you let the prisoners go making lock picks out of your special pens...It was a hypothetical .

Yes, well, now you explain it like THAT. I guess that's ONE way to look at it... :-)

Well all this talk of using pens and letter writing and such must have put a karmic event into play or something. I just recieved a letter today (along with a very early christmas card) from one of my Welsh cousins (who now lives in France ). I guess my arm is being twisted to write a letter of thanks and well wishes, along with family updates, in reply.
DAMN YOU FORCES OF KARMIC RETRIBUTION...

I have my grandfathers dip pen he used to write lables with, the nib is badly pitted and can no longer be removed from the shaft but it still writes. I have sence picked up a few different dip pens for the fun of it. I've been into fountain pens for a number of years and have accumulated a rather large ink supply. I use the dip pens to test different inks. For a few years I was a member of the Ink Drop at Goulet Pens so i could try inks I probably would not have bothered with before I left that due to financial issues as well as the huge amount of blue inks they send out... I have a rather strong dislike of blue ink...

Writing with a dip pen helps me with my writing because I have to slow down my thinking as well and moving my arm around. On long writing sessions I tend to bear down and tense up making it hard to read and making me cranky. A dip pen has a natural break in the rythum to reset the mind and body I now enjoy writing to friends and family with both fountain pens as well as dip pens.
