Need help fixing a loop on a leather watch strap
I have a love-hate relationship with leather watch straps. I love the simple-yet-classy look, but I hate that the cheap loops rip off long before the rest of the leather strap needs to be replaced. The watch repair shops around here all say I have to buy a whole new strap. Other than using an elastic band, does anyone have any suggestions for repairing the loop on a leather watch strap?
Thanks.

Thanked: 26In figuring out a strategy, know that super glue works on leather. On straps with floating loops, I'll figure out where I want the loop and glue it in place, for instance.
If you find something leather to make a new loop, you can put a long bevel on the ends and glue it with superglue. Straight razors (someone else's, not mine) are great for making long bevels in leather, as all beginning stroppers learn.

Any other suggestions?

Go to wal mart, buy a dozen cheap bands and throw them away when they rip!

Depending on the watch and the strap just buying a new strap might be the best option. I've never had a loop break before to tell you the truth. You might consider a zulu type band made of nylon. They're pretty cheap.

I've had a couple let go. Not so much break, but just kind of let go. The leather was supposed to loop around the band and be fixed together under a covering layer of leather on the inside of the band. In both instances, whatever was supposed to hold the ends of the loop together wasn't up to the job and let go.
Since I had some CA (superglue) for finishing wood scales I used that to reattach the loops and they both have worked great ever since - about two years for one of them, three years for the other.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
