When my children were young a local buffet was cheap and fun night out. Once they got over 10 it was cheaper other places.

Thanked: 1185Yeah, for sure I can't put a dent in a buffet like I used to. These days it's pretty much one plate and maybe some dessert but there was a time.

Thanked: 369I've been to my share of buffets over the years. But my wife and I now find them rather disgusting, especially some of the Asian style buffets, and also the "Home" style buffets. I'll never eat at a commercially run buffet again.

Thanked: 1It's a bit ironic that this appears in 'The Finer Things in Life' section when you can be pretty sure that the food is anything but fine!

This has to be an American thing.
Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
To spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the Last Day

Until a few months ago, there was a local Chinese buffet that offered lunch and two evenings each week for $ 6.99 including soft drinks. It closed, remodeled and reopened at $ 10 no soft drinks included, $ 15 at prime restaurant time. It now offers the addition of teppan yaki stir fry where the diner selects raw items to be cooked to order, and a higher grade of sushi. For $ 10, it is not such a bad idea when compared to the $ 8 dollar burger meals now being offered at the fast food joints, $7 subs, and $ 15 pizzas. The key to a buffet is to arrive shortly after they open while the food is still hot and fresh. Doing the buffet near closing is a bad idea, or if one yields to temptation and over indulges. Yes, the local buffet is not like dining in France or Italy, or at the finer US restaurants, but it beats or is a reasonable alternative to most fast food burger joints, sub shops, or pizza shops. FWIW, the restaurant inspectors in the city where I work decline to recommend any places to their friends and families advising them to cook and eat at home.

Thanked: 3The most entertaining thing it to watch the looks on their faces when the entire line of a football team walks in after practice (I was the smallest at 235 lbs) they kicked us out after about 3 heaping plates each.

Thanked: 485Ever see that 'Man Vs Food' show? I find it rather sickening. Then again, I'm a rather diminutive little fellow. I split my lunch in to two small meals, one at 1130 and one after my work out if I do a workout at lunch if not at around 2. I don't like to eat a lot in one go; I think it stretches your stomach. I do like to pour cream on my cereal at times though. My wife is horrified by that act. I just look at her and say "Am I fat??"

Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?
