Sounds like a good shopping list to me... definitely the essentials that every gentleman should have.

I did appreciate and consider (at length) the advice received, yet still am worried about that strap. What if they loosen? What if one needs to make another hole? What if one decides that hole renders the boots too tight or loose? A nightmare I say; a nightmare waiting to happen. With my OCD there would be havoc in the heavens and destruction on the ground, ANYTHING could happen. Loose footwear cannot be tolerated, just as neither can finger prints or 'smearing' on the glass of one's watch...

I appreciate your comment, I gather you are a man of style? (I'm not sure why I'm speaking like Lord Byron all of a sudden )
Not really sure what all that was about, but glad you're enjoying your search.
A quick glimpse at my avatar will give you an idea about my sense of style, but you can find a picture here:

Talking of good shoes, I have a pair of custom Churchs. I learned what quality feels like with them. I also learned what pain feels like because I have another pair that are too small. Only wore them three times. Anyone want to trade some stuff for an as new pair of $800 shoes? UK size 8.5

[QUOTE=carlmaloschneider;I intend to wear the Italian ones with grey slacks, white shirt with French cuffs, mother of pearl cufflinks, brown belt, no jacket or tie. [/QUOTE]

Hi carl i Had a wedding in my front garden on friday, groom wore grey trousers with brown shoes, it didnt not go, but it didnt exactly go either if you see what i mean. Why when I look for shoes can I only find either school shoes or ridiculously pointy long things, have come to the conclusion its either a square toe or a classic tapered toe on a low boot in edland.

Ed, you seek a bootmaker. Go to Sydney you must.

Tan with grey, or tan with black, goes on a lot in Asia. I think they can often pull it off because of the black hair, plus those doing it usually do it on purpose so they look how they want to look. For me, it would look like an accident, and everyone would say, 'Frankenstein, you've put the wrong shoes on'.

How's it going, by the way? Did you buy them?

I can't stand those long pointy things all the hip young guys wear these days. I'll definitely get the Alfred Sargent ones and just take them to the shop to buy trs and shirt to match. I'm now thinking black. Too many people have said brown and grey don't go...

Grey is a neutral color. It goes with everything.

Welllllll it depends on shades and stuff but would tend to agree. Unless you have earthy colours in your wardrobe it could be easier to get black ones. I would be falling over in long shoes, you'd never know where the end of your foot was =-O
Now you've got impetus to get your tax return done.
