Il have to look into controlling the air flow, the fan I'm using at the moment isn't variable, it's a 12v out of a minibus/SUV which I've wired up to mains via a ac/dc converter. Don't know the technicalities. Electrics I don't play with. If you can't see it I don't trust it, that's my motto!

Well I've just finished my new razor, apart from honing. I more or less set the bevel before I did my final polishing to make sure the bevel width was nice and straight and it felt great on the hone, the steel took some honing so I know the blade is plenty hard but it is honeable. My next razor I think I will up the temp ever so slightly in the oven to soften it a little more. I wanted to use horn for the scales but I was out so black acrylic will have to do for now. Il rescale when my horn arrives. I finished it in polished stacked brass washers and pins. I'm really pleased with the results, for a long time I've been admiring people's work on here making there own blades and to finally take the plunge and try it for myself is great. Here's a few pics:
As you can tell I'm a huge fan of old Sheffield wedges and modelled this razor on the same sort of blade and scales style. I like it and I can't wait to shave with it.

Oh, and btw, it's a touch over a 9/8 full wedge. Spine is bang on 1/4 inch thick.

I am a 4/8 to 5/8 user and prefer those sizes for ease of use around the face (for me anyway). BUT THAT IS ONE EFFIN BEAUTIFUL RAZOR mr mancherstertattoo. If I ever get adventurous I might try one that size. Good work!

For your next project you might want to think about hollowing out that wedge a bit.
It doesn't have to be an awful lot, but you have a triangular wedge here, and as soon as the razor has been honed a number of times, those bevels will grow very wide very quickly and make the razor dysfunctional / ugly.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I'm already part through one Bruno. I would put it quarter hollow ish. I know exactly what you mean, they can be rather difficult to hone true wedges of that size. Il post pics when I take some later...
