DMK 004 and 005 straight razor
Hi to all!
This is my first post here and I want to show you my latest work.
All started with idea and sketch.
After that I decide to buy plate of RWL34 to make this razorblade. I printed sketch and taped it on steel.
Cut to rough shape
Shaped on belt grinder
I decide to put some filework on back.

This is my jig for grinding profile...
And tools I used...
After some time...
I needed eternity to do this...
After I grind both straights I send it on hardening to the pro.
They are hardened and tempered at 59HRC - measured.
I start to grind profile to zero, and clean other parts of straights.

After some polishing they look like this
Also they was able to shave hair from hands...
I started to work on scales...
For first one I use steamed oak.
Wedge is from AISI 316L
For second one I use Lignum Vitae I get from one good guy.
On this one I used Titan for wedge.
Pins are AISI 316L on both.

Very nice work! I especially like the wavy filework. The scales are too thick for my taste, though
Edit: I'm loving the photography. I have so much to learn!Last edited by Laurens; 09-05-2013 at 03:54 PM.

Thanked: 203Excellent work. Well done.
RWL34 is probably my favourite steel to use for straights {definitely my favourite for kitchen knives}. Your polish looks lovely.
As laurens said, i would just work on making the scales a bit thinner on your next ones. Also love the box you made.
Keep on going!
Best Regards,
Adam
