Thanked: 0Straight razor blank plans (vector or CAD)
I have access to a flowjet (and I know how to use it) and some extra 1095 steel in 3/8 thickness. I was thinking of making a straight razor. First step is cutting out the blanks on the flowjet - does anybody know where I could find plans for a blank (or have one they'd be willing to share with me)? Ideally in CAD (.DXF) or vector (.AI) format, but I'm not picky. I've spent a lot of time Googling, but unfortunately haven't come up with anything.

Thanked: 3795I'm hoping to start making razors soon. I figured I'd look at razors I like and then just do a variation on that theme.
That said, I'd love to play with a toy like yours, but I'd assume that you are probably going to have to come up with your own designs. Either way, please show us what you make!!!

Thanked: 105It would be easy to draw an out line in corel draw, then save it as a .dxf . Should be able to do the same in .ai .
I do it in corel for engraving with a cnc engraver and it works great.

Thanked: 1936With it being 3/8 steel, you are going to have to draw out 8/8 or larger blades?

Thanked: 0Actually I have 3/16 - as I was typing that, I was thinking it would make a nice 5/8 blank and I mistyped
. 3/8 would make a *huge* razor!

Good luck in your quest. I can't help you with CAD drawings. I use a sketch book to draw designs, and then eyeball it until it is done. I forge everything to size anyway so it's really all down to eyeballing and gut feeling.

Thanked: 49The guys at Portland Razor recently started water jetting their blanks instead of bandsawing and profiling them by hand and that apparently saved them enough time that there were able to eliminate their bare bones model and sell the next model up at the old cheap razor price. Time is definitely money!!!!!
