It can be used for glass and ceramics too. In fact it would be better to say it is a ceramics oven that can be used for steel.
Maybe my wife is interested in doing something like that.

Bruno has the money and not the time so for him that is a wise investment; the rest of us may be the opposite.
There are many possibilities and Googling "Kiln, Home made" will get you started.

I'm in the process of building a heat treating oven. 5"W, 4 1/2H and 15D. Total cost, around $350. Should be able to light it up next week. Electric, digital controls.

Congratulations, great thing. A camera is not very big in size?

I lack time to do everything I want to do, so I would rather make razors and spend the money on tools without caring about the money, than spend all my time on making tools and not making any razors. I incorporated with the goal of making this hobby pay for itself, and to build a business over the long term so that when the mortgage is paid and the kids are finishing college, I can go pro without jumping into an unknown. In the meantime, I get to have fun making blades
