Welcome to SRP. The blade still belonged to Gramps. Keep it as a remembrance. Grinding it down to a 3/8 ain't worth it IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Do you have the broken out pieces? It could be turned into a display piece (repair is going to show) or just close it up and make a shadow box of grand dad's stuff with that in it.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Thanked: 0No, i don't have the broken out piece. Regrettably all that's left of the poor guy is what is pictured. Not even the scales survived. It has now turned into a repair project! New question to ALL. could the piece be replaced and repaired so that it would be non functioning but at least a "complete" display piece? how much would that run me? Is there anyone who provides such a service? Thanks again to everyone

With nothing but the remains of that blade there really isn't much to do but consign it to history and the recycle bin.
