Thanked: 2209Classes at Howard Clarks workshop .....
Hey guys
Howard Clark will be conducting 3 classes this fall.
Here is a link to his webpage describing the classes.
Classes at Morgan Valley Forge. | Omimi
Class 1. Forging and grinding a Japanese style Tanto blade.
This class starts on August 1, 2016, 4 students, and is filled.
Class 2. Forging and grinding straight razors.
September 12-16, 2016
4 students. 2 openings left. This was filled but
last minute cancellations for medical reasons occurred.
I and Ron Hrstka ( Utopian ) will be attending this class.
Howard has been making straight razors for many years.
He recently conducted a straight razor making class at
the New England School of metalwork.
Here is a pic of some of the razors that were completed.
This is your chance to receive some first class instruction
on the forging and grinding of straight razors.
Sign up now!
Class 3. The "ites", metallurgy applied to blades.
October 24-28, 2016, 4 students, class is filled.
This is Howard Clarks strong suit.
He knows this subject very well. Ferrite , Martensite, bainite, austentite,
pearlite, etc. You will become knowledgeable with what
these are and how they affect the blade.Last edited by randydance062449; 07-29-2016 at 04:25 AM.

Thanked: 1936Wish the funds and work would allow it, Howard is one of those who has forgotten more than I will probably ever know. The making of the tanto would definitely fall into line with my intent of making my first short sword this fall.

Argh.... I took a welding class last fall and already signed up for a machining class this fall. I would love to do this and need to add it to the list of things because this sounds incredible!
