Thread: Pin peening anvil

Made this last night, it's just a piece of 1 1/8" sucker rod, most likely a 4130 alloy, water quenched and heat treated to about 55 RC. The holes are 5/64" and different depths to accommodate different pin lengths. Makes peening little 1/16" pins a lot easier. I was using a polished face on a ball peen hammer clamped in a vise to do them and while it worked, this is more secure and the holes make it easier. The cut out was done with a 4 1/2" grinder and cut off wheel and cleaned up on the belt grinder and is to sit on the top jaws of my bench vise and make it stay put. Got the idea from watching Lewis Razor's youtube videos. Oh, and it's about 3" long total, weights about 3/4 of a pound.
