That makes sense. I guess I'll try more free hand on this one today. Ill try using 60 grit pots HT too.
Thanks for all the thoughts guys.

Size: 21.7 KB . I am curious what you would judge these as in terms of grind. Wedge, quarter, half.... They arent 100% done becuase they are failed attempts. However, I am learning something each time, so its fine. Blues-- if you rough grind with say a 6" wheel, do you drop down to say a 5 or 4 inch wheel post heating treating?
JUST FYI- I have solved the "line near the spine" problem, but still not getting an even grind egde. The toe an heel are always too thick.

That looks about half hollow to me. There are too many possible grind configurations to be definitive on grind terminology once you go past a true wedge IMO.

Your second question is too general to answer. The more hollow you want to go, the smaller your wheel size, but whether it is before or after HT is up to the maker. If I was grinding quarter hollows I think that I would use the same size wheel before and after HT. Personally I use very small wheels pre HT, but I would never teach it that way as I've realized that I've developed specialized skills around my method.

Thats interesting. I notice that a lot of the razors I personally like have a slight belly. So, I image they are being made similar to what you are describing. Thanks for the input.
