Thanked: 59New Coal Forge
Well a friend of mine surprised me and made me a new coal forge. I finally get to retire the old Bar-B-Q.
Here is the new one. It still needs some modifications made to it yet, but I'm excited to give it a try.
Here is the old one that I made about 5 years ago when you guys helped me out with my first razor.

interesting design. Is that whole length the fire pot? I've been toying with the idea of making a small portable forge to compliment my gas forges. Some things are easier to do in a coal forge.

Thanked: 59Overall the thing is like 50 inches long with about a 13 inch deep fire pot. Sorry for the fuzzy picture.

wow! that must really use up the coal. Do your forge a lot of large items?

Thanked: 59Well with the old forge I couldn't forge anything large. That was the problem. So now I can complete some larger projects that I have on my list. Also, the new forge is simply too deep. I'm going to have to modify it somewhat and even then I don't think that I'll fill it full to the top.

That makes sense, maybe cut some notches out of the ends?

Thanked: 59That piece if railroad track in the first post is getting a face lift. I reground it to more of an anvil shape and am welding a piece of Hardox to the top for a better working surface.

that should make a nice surface. I started with a piece of rail too and i think you'll like that bigger surface much better.
