What I see is where the hole is located, in comparison to more modern grinds. The older ones (stub tails ) were located below where the tail starts, where the newer razors are more forward on the tang. Not that it matters, just an observation.

Thanked: 59Well we have birthed a blade. The hardening and tempering all look to have gone well. Now if I don't mess up on the last 5% of the grinding, we will actually have a functioning razor.

Thanked: 59The blade is ground and I have set the initial bevel with a 1K DMT. It shaves arm hair well at this point, so I will try to get the scales completed tomorrow. I'm getting excited about seeing it done and trying it out. It is a busy weekend ahead of me, so I'm not sure if it will be done before Monday or not.

Thanked: 59It's not quite done yet, but it's close. I still need to hone it, refine the toe a bit and etch my initials on the blade.

If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

Yeah, I like it too. It is kind of like the Plymouth Prowler. It is obviously new but also with an obvious nod to the past.

Thanked: 59Well I've had three people want to buy it, so I guess that it is sold. I'll have to make another one because I was really liking it.

Thanked: 59Well I got my initials etched on it and one shave in before it leaves my possession. Time to fire off the forge again.

Some how missed this thread. Did you go with a full taper? I assumed so given the era you were going for. I have done one tapered blade but mine was opposite, more of an 1840’s rendition. It came out well grinding wise but the heat treat was subpar and I made a couple of mistakes. Decided to snap it in two to look at its insides. Grain was good size but I must have gotten it too hot as it was chippy.
What are the scales made of? Love the streaking.
