I made an adjustable spark deflector for my grinder, should take the excitement out of a belt breaking too.

Old post I know. Interesting reading and experience reporting though. A better grinder is definitely something that I need and am exploring. I'm really intrigued by the thought of building one. Right now I have a 1x42 Foley Bellsaw single speed as my only belt grinder. I am doing a lot with a drill and sanding drums and also hand sanding a lot. It's amazing what you can do if you're determined and don't have the sense to know better. That seems to be the story of my life. I remember when I got my first compound bow. It seemed like cheating. I'm hoping that will be the case when I do finally get a grinder built.
