Thanked: 995Allow me to express doubt about your assertion. Bainite forms from austenite, not martensite, and requires very specific temperatures to achieve, including cooling rate, both of those are different from those required to form martensite. I'm talking about austempering and that is not the same as tempering martensite, is it?
My other questions still remain unanswered.

Thanked: 2Yes austempering and martensite tempering are different. After rereading my bainite and martensite sources yes I was in error about the bainite forming from martensite. Bainite references aside, your other questions about fully hardened blades and japanese blades have been answered.

Twalsh341, can you post some pics of some of your blade work or tool work for us to see? I wholeheartedly welcome you here as I feel any accurate knowledge shared by an experienced metalworker certainly helps the community. If you haven't already, I invite you to introduce yourself and give us an idea of what you've done and what you're currently doing in this craft. I"m willing to bet others would agree with me.
I look forward to more posts from you.
