Excellent I am looking forward to it. In mean time could be used the foam cover for heating pipes instead of the camping mat? Simmilar material and is already preshaped.

    Hey Charlie,

I have been watching this thread and as I was reading it today I was going to suggest 2 things, 1. Bicycle inner tube tire material and 2. the padding off an exercise machine arm rests. But...for some reason the thought came to mind of a "layered" approach. Since the weather stripping might not be durable enough perhaps a layer of bicycle inner tube material over the weather stripping? or bicycle/weather/bicycle?

Lets see, carpet padding? Foam rubber????

    Just a thought,

The serpintine belt is the belt that runs everything on the front of some engines, it replaced the fan belts.

    Randy,

Using inner tube as an out covering for a softer inside is pretty damn brilliant.

Any update to this as far as the tutorial goes? This is just a great idea and it makes me feel like I had better get off my butt and start tinkering more.

I made the tutorials and put them on my website. I have been happy with the way the grinder works.

    Default grinder

I like the looks but the grinder scares the crap out of me. Some thing spinning at over 1000 ft per second . I think its great you are such a good wood worker but its way to dangerous to have a laminated piece of wood spinning at 1 or 2 thousand fps. I have a comercial knife grinder and apply alot of pressure on it when grinding and things heat up over time the wood will fly apart under the high speed /heat and so on . Great Idea just needed to be steel /aluminum/ or stainless. This is what you need ,I dont have a picture with my 10 inch contact wheel.

Wooden pulleys have been in use since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Wood is turned on lathes on a regular basis at much faster RPMs and Feet/Min than this grinder runs. To say that a wooden wheel wheel will fly apart while turning on this grinder is just plain wrong.

I am a firm believer of making the most out of what you have and adapting the knowledge you have to get the results you want. The grinder you have is worlds ahead of the grinder that is pictured in this thread. But the grinder in this thread could be easily made with wood working tools and would allow a person to an introduction into the world of hollow grinding.

If this grinder does not suit you that is fine, but do not make unfounded claims of wood flying apart.
