    Hitachi ATS-34 Stainless
    Typical Chemistry: C 1.00 Mn .40 Si .25 Cr 13.75 Mo 3.5

    or

    D-2 Tool Steel
    Typical Chemistry:C 1.50 Mn .40 Si .40 Cr 12.00 Va .95 Mo .90

    or

    HR 1095
    C 0.9 / 1.04 Mn 0.30 / 0.5

    Well for hand forging what would you suggest? Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.

    thats easy none of them
    for hand forging and heat treat 1084 is the steel to use as its more forgiving in heat treat adn can still be run withina point of max hardness of 1095

    of those 3 tho 1095 is the only one that you wil want to forge
    the other can be forged but not easy and not always with good results

    I guess bu forged I mean cut and hand filed, sanded down.

    Then heat treat and temper.

    by forge i mean hammering on hot seet to get it close to shape


    if your going to be a stock remover like me (i forge for fun)
    the you can use any of those steels
    but the D2 and ats34 you will want to send out for heat treat (less you have a kiln, foil wrap and LN2 )

    my choice of the D2 and ats34 would be to see about gettign CPMD2 and CPM154 as they are maybe the cleanest batches of the steels you want
