    Default UK Razor making..?

    Hi folks,

I've been looking around to find someone who makes razors in the UK with a view to getting some lessons. I've been inspired by the videos of Mastro Livi and the DOVO and TI videos on Youtube..!

Is there anyone in the UK who forges razors and would be prepared to give lessons? I am prepared to pay for the tuition/ materials etc...

    All the best,

    Stu

    Try Sheffield

Just kidding, if you can find an old cuttlery master, he may be willing to teach you the art if he ever knew it, of course.

I just might have a good reply for you after this weekend.
I have managed to get a friend of mine to make me a Japanese razor in 440c stainless & I should be picking it up this weekend .
He is going to make an initial batch of 5 blades & Is talking about putting handle scales of antique Ivory on some of the blades.
He will be going to the Weston Park country show & should be taking these blades with Him .
He is Farid the knifemaker, He has just given me an update,he's rough ground 2 blades in 440c, 3 blades in stainless san mai damascus with a SG2 gold core & 3 blades in CPM/S90V steel.
I will try & get some pictures posted after this weekend.
    Cheers Paul

Weston's not too far a drive from me really. That sounds interesting! Does he have an idea of price for each steel yet? You may have to PM, rather than post here to keep within the rules. Looking forward to the photos now.

    thank you all.

Those are beautiful razors; I had been under the impression, however, that 440 was unsuitable for razors... have you given them a try yet?

    Gorgeous blades, though...

Hello Benjamin, There are 3 grades of 440 steel out there, 440-A , 440-B and 440-c, the 440-c is the highest carbon, I am a knife maker but I am having lots of fun making japanese razors, I am grinding them all by hand and do all my own heat-treating.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have, take care sir,
    Farid
