Thanked: 124Wet grinder 2.0
Got a real motor and built a wet enclosure for the wheel, modelled after Charlie's wet hollow grinder. I just used it to grind a knife I made for my GF, it works great. I did not buy a fully enclosed motor, due mainly to stupidity, but it's just as well because this grinder is so slow and well enclosed, it does not tend to fling particles around anyway, and the enclosed motors in emotorstore were expensive and heavy. I have some fine mesh cloth I'll use to cover the vent holes, but really, I don't think that's even necessary.
Motor is 0.5 HP 1750 RPM single phase AC, geared down to 300 RPM. It's slow but does not burn the metal. Even without the water drip, you can grind several passes before you need to dunk the workpiece in ice water.

It looks like a cool set up to me.
