    Absolutely! I think after some thought i'm going to follow undream's path with the kit. It makes the most sense financially and it looks like a fun project. There is something about using a tool that you built.

    I"m hoping to get lucky with a motor but if not that still sets my budget at like 1200 which is less than 3k.

    If you want to spend a bit more, USA knifemaker sells a kit for around $1200 that includes just about every wheel and platen combination available. No motor, however. You can go with step pulleys and single speed motor for around $200 - less if you look hard, or go for broke and get a variable speed, which is really sweet. Good luck with your project!
